The VPHCS reaches out to marginalized communities in Cebu and Bohol to render free medical check-ups and dispensing of medicines, free tooth extraction, circumcision, and blood typing. These medical missions are done in coordination with people’s organizations, school-based organizations, colleges, development work organizations, local government units, and foreign- and locally-based funding agencies. Medicines are largely donated by charitable and support institutions and individuals here and abroad. Physical examination of elementary students is done in selected schools as requested by the people’s organizations. This includes height and weight determination, visual acuity, urinalysis, dental check up and medical check-up. The missions also serve as the practicum of community health workers trained by the VPHCS to render basic preventive, promotive and curative services. Patients who need to be referred to tertiary health centers for specialist care and laboratory work-up are assisted by the CHWs.
Medical doctors of the VPHCS also hold clinic in its office for patients coming from the communities who are referred by the CHWs. Patients who need to be further evaluated and managed are referred to physicians, dentists and other health professionals as well as diagnostic laboratories which provide their services at no cost or for a minimal fee.
