Ceremonial Turnover of Handwashing Facilities in Medellin, Cebu

The ceremony of the turnover of the handwashing facilities donated by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) ReachHealth Project to the Municipality of Medellin was held on November 23, 2020 at the Municipal Hall grounds.

The Visayas Primary Healthcare Services, Inc. organized the ceremony as part of the project supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on COVID-19 response.

The affair was graced by Medellin Municipal Planning and Development Officer Giles Anthony L. Villamor, LGU personnel, MHO Dr. Oliver A. Gimenez, staff of the RHU, staff of the Visayas Primary Healthcare Services, Inc. and Keannu M. Arnoco and Carmen Claire Alfafara of the RTI International. There were 39 participants who attended the event. Mayor Joven Mondigo had an urgent activity to attend to but arrived during the closing of the ceremony.

The opening prayer was led by VPHCS staff Crescenciana Labitad which was followed by the opening remarks of Dr. Gimenez. He was followed by an overview of the ReachHealth project given by Mr. Arnoco. Following his speech was the speech of Dr. Erlinda Posadas, program physician of the VPHCS, who presented the six handwashing facilities in Medellin in the following sites, namely: two in the public market, one in the municipal hall which are pedal-operated, and three lavatories in the rural health unit. She also said that the USAID was donating BIDA hygiene kits for the use of patients of COVID-19.

Her speech was followed by the ceremonial ribbon cutting of the handwashing facility by Mr. Villamor and Dr. Gimenez. They then proceeded to sign the Certificate of Turnover and Acceptance. Mr. Villamor then gave his acceptance speech, thanking the USAID for the donations.

The ceremonial first handwashing was then done by Mr. Villamor and Dr. Gimenez.

This was then followed by the turnover of BIDA kits donated by USAID ReachHealth Project to the Municipality of Medellin, which were accepted by Mr. Villamor and Dr. Gimenez. Mr. Arnoco represented the RTI International in the turnover.

Ms. Alfafara then gave her closing remarks. A picture pose by all the participants was then taken.

The activity started at 10:00 a.m and ended at 11:00 a.m.
