The Presidents of Sitio Nangka Ville Association and Tierra Dulce shared their project experiences with stakeholders, volunteers and donors of the Camillian Disaster Service International (CADIS) during it 10th Leadership Conference last March 17 to 19, 2025 in Palm Grass Hotel, Cebu City.
Marlen Legara, President of the Sitio Nangka Ville Women’s Association and Nonita Palacio, President of the Tierra Dulce Homeowners Association talked to 22 participants from India, Taiwan, Australia, the Philippines, Thailand, Italy and the USA in one of the sessions during the occasion on May 17, 2025.
The two leaders shared their experiences of social and economic crises, disaster risks and environmental degradation, and how the project supported by CADIS, have helped them to address these issues. They said that the project has had a big positive impact. It helped their two urban poor communities prepare better for disasters, improved health, boosted local involvement, and supported economic independence. It also brought their residents together and encouraged them to lead their own development.
The two leaders also said that the project showed how powerful it can be when the communities led by their two associations work together. By involving their members and non-members, encouraging teamwork, and tackling their day to day problems, the project had caused improvements in the four informal settlements.
After their sharings, the participants expressed their appreciation and gratitude to the two leaders. They also expressed their admiration of how the members of their association have withstood their hardships and remained strong and resilient.
