Two trainings on Community- based Disaster Management (CBDM) Planning were held in August and September 2023. A training was held for the people’s organization (PO) in Sitio Nangka Ville and Sitio Wang Yu in August 23 – 25, 2023, while another training was held for Sitio Tierra Dulce and Sitio Lawis in September 2 – 4, 2023. Each training lasted for three days. Ten members of the CDMC and five officers of the PO, and five members of the barangay DRRMC worked on and formulated their respective CBDM plans.
Their CBDM plans demonstrated a collaborative approach to disaster management, integrating local knowledge and resources to address vulnerabilities, improve preparedness, foster community engagement to enhance resilience and safety against disasters.
The plans came up with comprehensive strategies to disaster preparedness including community organizing, recruitment, community clean-ups, educational campaigns, collaboration with local authorities and schools to address lack of proper drainage, fire hazards, and the construction of an access road for Sitio Nangka Ville and infrastructure improvement (paving deteriorated roads for Sitio Tierra Dulce). They shall also collaborate with the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (BDRRM) to integrate local knowledge for enhanced disaster preparedness. There shall also be regular monitoring and assessments for resilience.
All their disaster risk plans and CBDM plans highlight the proactive steps planned by the four associations in terms of community mapping, disaster preparedness, resource mapping, addressing keys issues, and fostering community engagement and collaboration to enhance resilience and safety against disasters.
