A community clinic was held on July 28, 29, 2018 in Barangay Maharuhay and Barangay Kawit in the Municipality of Medellin. More than 300 residents availed of health services including medical check up, urinalysis, fitting of eyeglasses, blood sugar testing and medicines. The clinics were organized by the local people’s organizations under the project funded by the Caritas Austria.
The clinic is part of the project “Integrated Community-based Livelihood Project for Typhoon Yolanda Survivors in Medellin and Daanbantayan, Cebu” in eight impoverished mountain barangays in the two municipalities which is funded by Caritas Austria. The project is part of a wholistic project on social development implemented by the Cebu-Bohol Relief and Rehabilitation Center (CRRC) which provides livelihood projects and social services to the residents in the barangays.
The project lasts from December 1,, 2017 to November 31, 2019. Its objective is to contribute to an increased resilience of Typhoon Yolanda survivors through sustainable livelihood and health support in Medellin and Daanbantayan.
The past months January to September 2018 saw a series of BHST level 1 and 2 and a special skills training for the CHWs in Kawit, Daanglungsod, Gibitngil and Maharuhay. A total of 43 have been trained to respond to the health needs of the residents.
With the skills that they got, trained CHWs conducted health education on relevant health problems in the communities including treatment of cough and coughs and diarrhea among children, using herbal medicines and home remedies and promotion of nutrition. Other services rendered to their communities included monitoring blood pressure of the people and referring hypertensive patients to the rural health unit for treatment.
