The Visayas Primary Healthcare Services, Inc. was privileged to host the visit of German journalist Christina Geisler on January 8 – 10, 2016.

Geisler was commissioned by the Aktion Deutschland Hilft, Germany’s Relief Coalition, to visit areas in Cebu and Samar where it is supporting rehabilitation projects in the aftermath of Typhoon Yolanda. Geisler would then publish news stories to share with the German public the situation in these areas.

Geisler visited project areas of the LandsAid, a humanitarian aid organization which is supported by Aktion, in three barangays in north Cebu. Barangays Paypay and Dalingding Norte in Daanbantayan, Cebu are the sites of an ongoing project of the VPHCS which is supported by the LandsAid.

The project, Building Community-based Health Programs in Northern Cebu,” which started in May 2015, aims to provide primary health care services to the three communities through health skills trainings of community health workers (CHWs), services by the trained CHWs, health information, and health programs that address common diseases and problems in the communities.

During her visit, Geisler conducted interviews with the CHWs and the residents and documented health activities. She expressed her appreciation and gratitude for being given the rare opportunity to witness how resilient the people are in moving on with their lives two years after Typhoon Yolanda.
