A seminar on Laudato Si’ Action Platform was conducted for the women’s associations of Sitio Nangka Ville and Sitio Wang Yu on May 20, 2024 and another similar seminar for the Sitio Lawis Pasil Women’s Association and Tierra Dulce Homeowners Association on May 21, 2024. Both seminars were held in the CENDET seminar house in Cebu City.
The seminars were held in connection with the celebration of Laudato Si’ Week which is an annual celebration held every May to commemorate the anniversary of Pope Francis’s encyclical “Laudato Si’” on caring for our common home. This year, Laudato Si’ Week occurs from May 19 to May 26, 2024. Laudato Si’ means “Praise Be to You.”
During the seminar, resource person Jon Neil Perfecio discussed about the crisis the world is facing now related with wanton environmental destruction. The participants had workshops on how they view this problem in their own communities.
Perfecio said that the celebration encourages reflection, action, and awareness related to environmental stewardship and the urgent need for personal and cultural transformation in the face of ecological and climate crises.
The video, “The Letter” was shown during the seminar which emphasizes the urgent need for environmental stewardship and the interconnectedness of all creation. The film features various individuals who discuss their experiences and perspectives on climate change and environmental degradation, reflecting the call in “Laudato Si'” for a global dialogue about our relationship with the earth.
Both seminars culminated with pledges from the participants to be seeds of hope in our lives and in our world, of hope for our “suffering planet.”
