A focus group discussion – post training monitoring for youth leaders of Bogo City was held last January 15, 2021 at the Bogo City Hall covered court.

There were 10 youth leaders, seven of whom came up from the Parish Youth Coordinating Counci, one from the PYAC, and two  from the 4H Association.

As a background, the youth play an essential role together with the BHERTs, barangay health workers, barangay nutrition scholars and other sectors in community-based COVID-19 response. A training for youth leaders was conducted last November 6, 2020 on hgiene care and hygiene promotion. It is very important in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic so that increased awareness of the youth leaders on it can pave way for more active involvement of the youth sector in community-based COVID-19 response in their communities.  Since the training, they were expected to apply what they have learned during the training and it is important to evaluate how they have done so.

The participants expressed that after the training, they had become more conscious in practicing personal hygiene and cleanliness in their homes and in their environment.  They said that they had very important roles to help their parents in cleaning their homes in order to prevent the spread of diseases.   They also practiced the health protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by wearing face masks in public places always and practicing social distancing.  Now that public gatherings were now allowed, the leaders said that they had initiated clean up drives in their sitios.

They said there was a need to reach out to more youth organizations in order to promote about hygiene, through trainings for their youth leaders and information dissemination through the social media, or public gatherings.
