Training for Barangay Health Workers and Barangay Nutrition Scholars of Medellin

A training for barangay health workers (BHWs) and barangay nutrition scholars (BNS) was conducted last October 22, 2020 in the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

The training is part of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) ReachHealth Project administered by the RTI International to provide technical assistance to the Local Government Units (LGUs) of Medellin, Tabuelan, Bogo City, and San Remigio, to implement various capacity-building activities to support community-based COVID-19 response to delay, contain the transmission of COVID-19, and mitigate the effects of the pandemic in their localities.

The training was organized by the Visayas Primary Healthcare Services, Inc. (VPHCS) which implements the COVID-19 response project. There were 28 participants.

The topics included infection prevention and control (IPC) which was discussed by Jerhald Agcang, followed by the topic water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) by Lourdes Geolin, and gender-based violence (GBV) by Irish Grace Ramirez. The three resource persons are all VPHCS staff members working in the project.
