The Visayas Primary Healthcare Services, Inc, has actively involved in the solicitation of relief goods and their distribution to urban poor communities gravely affected by the enhanced community quarantine in the Cities of Cebu.

It is a member of the Coalition for People’s Right to Health (CPRH) – Cebu Chapter which is spearheading the relief solicitation and distribution. As a broad formation of non-government organizations and individuals working for a free, progressive and comprehensive health care, the CPRH responded to the effect of the ECQ on urban poor communities. Affected are poor people who have lost their livelihood, jeepney, tricycle, public motorcycle and bus drivers, vendors in the wet markets and streets, workers who are on a “no work, no pay” basis, workers who have been laid off, and hundreds others.

The CPRH distributed relief goods to more than 450 families who have lost their means of livelihood due to the ECQ on April 7, 8 and 18. The beneficiaries included tricycle drivers plying the Mandaue routes, urban poor associations in Mantuyong, Guizo, Tipolo, Hernan Cortes and other areas in Mandaue, urban poor settlers and vendors in Ermita, Pasil, Pardo and other areas in Cebu City, and selected areas in Lapu-Lapu City.

The relief goods consisted of packs of rice, sardines, mongoes and noodles, and packs of potato wedges.

Donations came from individual benefactors responding to the call for donations posted in the CPRH facebook page. The Sto. Nino de Cebu Augustinian Social Development Foundation (SNAF) also provided food and the use of its vehicle in the relief distribution.
